Sand blasting is abrasive blast cleaning: fine media fired by compressed air to strip a surface without scrubbing or chemicals. At Belmont we sand blast metal, timber, brick and stone, choosing the media and pressure for each material, from gentle on oak beams to hard on rusty steel.

Modern sand blasting doesn't use silica sand. We use safer abrasives suited to the job, which is why the same team can strip a cast iron bench in the morning and clean a Victorian fireplace in the afternoon.

What people bring us

  • Gates, railings and fencing
  • Cast iron and aluminium garden furniture
  • Cast iron signs, lampposts and bollards
  • Table bases, stools and metal furniture
  • Oak beams, trusses and lintels
  • Brick and stone walls and fireplaces
  • Car chassis, wheels and parts
  • Trailers, farm machinery and plant

If it's metal and it's rusty, we can almost certainly bring it back. Ask us.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between sand blasting and shot blasting?

Both are abrasive blast cleaning. "Sand blasting" usually means air-fed blasting with a fine media, which suits timber, brick, stone and delicate metalwork. "Shot blasting" usually means blasting steel with steel shot or grit. We choose the method for your material, so you don't need to know which to ask for.

Is sand blasting safe for oak beams and brick?

Yes, when the media and pressure are right. We use a gentler setup for timber and soft brick, test a small area first, and adjust until the coating comes off without chewing the surface. See beams and brickwork.

Can you sand blast aluminium garden furniture?

Yes. Aluminium needs a finer, non-ferrous media and lower pressure than steel. After blasting we can powder coat it in your choice of colour.

Do you sand blast on site?

Yes. For beams, brickwork and anything that can't be moved, we bring compressors and blast equipment to you. See mobile blasting.
